Pune, April 16, 2025 – On the occasion of the 345th death anniversary of the legendary Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Indian Research Council organized a special lecture by eminent historian Pandurang Balkawade. The event, held to honor the legacy of the great ruler, was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Shri Shivaji Raigad Memorial Board Secretary Sudhir Thorat and Board President Pradip Ravat.

In his address, Balkawade highlighted the significance of contributions made by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja to Indian history and culture. He emphasized that Indian civilization, renowned worldwide for its greatness and ideals, has always upheld the principles of freedom in thought and action. However, this very prosperity attracted foreign invasions, leading to centuries of plunder and devastation.

“It was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who stood as a bulwark against these forces, protecting and reviving India’s cultural and national pride,” Balkawade remarked. “His visionary leadership and unwavering courage laid the foundation for resistance and resurgence.”

The event also featured reflections on Shivaji Maharaj’s governance, military strategies, and commitment to justice and welfare. The lecture was moderated by Guruprasad Kanitkar, who facilitated an engaging discussion on the Maratha king’s enduring influence.

Secretary Sudhir Thorat and President Pradip Ravat underscored the importance of preserving Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy for future generations. They reiterated the need to draw inspiration from his ideals of bravery, administration, and devotion to the motherland.

The gathering concluded with a collective tribute to the great king, reaffirming his timeless relevance in India’s historical and cultural narrative.
