In a significant development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to welcome two prominent Congress leaders from the Marathwada region—dealing a major political blow to the Congress just ahead of polls.
Former three-time MLA from Jalna, Kailash Gorantyal, and senior leader Suresh Varpudkar will officially join the BJP on Tuesday at 3 PM in Mumbai, in the presence of BJP’s Maharashtra state president Ravindra Chavan. This political shift marks a strategic boost for BJP’s organizational strength in the Marathwada region.
Since Ravindra Chavan took over as BJP state chief, the party has witnessed a sharp surge in political entries, with several leaders and workers from rival parties switching sides. The latest defection of Gorantyal and Varpudkar is being viewed as a significant dent in the Congress’s stronghold in Jalna, Nanded, and Parbhani.
The joining of these senior leaders is expected to alter political dynamics in the region, strengthening the BJP’s grassroots base just ahead of the local body elections. With Congress already grappling with internal challenges, the exit of such experienced figures is likely to trigger a further split within the party.
