Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train Begins 6-Day Journey Showcasing the Legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

The Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train began a six-day journey showcasing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy. Fully booked, the tour covers key forts, temples, and cultural landmarks across Maharashtra, offering an immersive Maratha history experience.

Mumbai | June 9, 2025: A special six-day journey into the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj began today, as the state government flagged off the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train from Mumbai.

At 6 am, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accompanied by Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar, Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai, and State Minister Indranil Naik, launched the train.The initiative is being run jointly by the Maharashtra Tourism Corporation and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

“Through this journey, we want citizens to experience Maharashtra’s proud Maratha history first-hand,” Fadnavis said.

The train, carrying 710 passengers in various classes, will cover key historical sites associated with Shivaji Maharaj across six days. Demand for the tour has been overwhelming, with all seats booked.

The itinerary includes visits to Raigad Fort, Shivneri Fort, Pratapgad Fort, Panhala Fort, Lal Mahal, Kasba Ganapati Temple, and Shivsruthi theme park. Spiritual stops at Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple and Mahalaxmi Temple in Kolhapur are also included.

Day-wise highlights:

The all-inclusive tour provides train and bus travel, hotel accommodation, all vegetarian meals, sightseeing, insurance, and guide services.

Railway officials noted that the program is receiving an “enthusiastic response” from history enthusiasts, tourists, and families alike, as it offers a unique chance to immerse oneself in Maratha history and culture.
