Pune | 07 June,2025: After months of delay, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to begin the much-anticipated process of selecting its next national president. While an official announcement is still awaited, sources suggest that internal consultations are well underway, and the formal process could kick off by mid-June — with a potential announcement by the end of the month.

Preparations have accelerated following the completion of organizational elections across most states, a prerequisite under the party’s constitution. The recent appointment of 70 district presidents in Uttar Pradesh has further fueled speculation that central leadership may soon act on the national post.

The election timeline was reportedly impacted by the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22, leading to a temporary pause in proceedings.

State-level dynamics shaping the process

Before finalizing the national appointment, the party may first announce new state unit presidents in key states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Caste representation is a crucial factor in these decisions.

Race for the top post

Meanwhile, at the national level, three prominent names are emerging as potential contenders:

Sources indicate that the final selection will carefully balance organizational expertise, regional representation, and caste considerations.

The current BJP national president JP Nadda, who has held the position since January 2020, had his term extended to lead the party through the 2024 general elections. Now, the leadership change debate has regained momentum.

A Central Election Committee is expected to oversee the entire process — from nomination filings to vetting and, if necessary, conducting a vote. However, it remains unclear whether Nadda will be offered a fresh full-term or if the party will opt for a new face to steer it forward.
