CA

A Mumbai CA died by suicide after being blackmailed for ₹2.5 crore over private videos. He named two Instagram acquaintances in his suicide notes. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

Mumbai, 9 July 2025: A 32-year-old chartered accountant from Mumbai ended his life in a shocking turn of events after allegedly being blackmailed and extorted by two individuals he had befriended through Instagram. The deceased, whose identity has been kept confidential, reportedly transferred ₹2.5 crore over several months to these blackmailers under duress.

According to police reports, the blackmail began after the CA exchanged personal interactions with the suspects online. They threatened to leak private videos, pushing him into a constant state of fear and submission. In a desperate attempt to silence them, the CA even began transferring money from his company’s account, trying to protect his reputation and privacy.

On June 7, the two accused reportedly visited the victim’s home and made further threats in front of his mother, threatening to expose their relationship publicly and leak intimate material online. This led to severe emotional breakdown and ultimately to the tragic act.

The Vakola police have registered a case under sections of abetment to suicide and extortion, though the accused are yet to be arrested. Before his death, the victim had already filed a complaint, signaling the ongoing blackmail. After the suicide, police recovered three handwritten suicide notes — one addressed to his mother, one to the company, and a third clearly naming the two blackmailers and holding them responsible for his death.

Investigations are ongoing into the illegal withdrawals from the company’s account, and the Bandra police have intensified efforts to trace and arrest the accused individuals.
