A cattle theft gang attempted to run over Police Inspector Sandeep Patil in Jalgaon. Two accused were arrested and weapons, a bull, and a car were seized in the chase.
Jalgaon | June 17, 2025: In a shocking incident, a police officer in Jalgaon narrowly escaped death after a gang of cattle thieves tried to run him over with a car. The targeted officer, Inspector Sandeep Patil from the Local Crime Branch (LCB), sustained minor injuries but survived the assassination attempt.
The incident unfolded near Kund village in Muktainagar taluka, where a team from the LCB spotted a suspicious vehicle carrying cattle. Upon noticing the police, the gang attempted to flee, triggering a high-speed chase across district lines.
The chase reached Ridhora village near Balapur in Akola district, where police strategically stopped a truck to block the road and halt the gang’s vehicle. As Inspector Patil exited his police car to apprehend the suspects, the gang suddenly accelerated in an attempt to mow him down. Although Inspector Patil was hit, he managed to dodge in time, escaping with minor injuries.
In the ensuing operation, the police nabbed two members of the gang. The team also seized a live bull, a car, a pistol, a sword, a knife, and an iron rod—confirming that the suspects were armed and dangerous.
The Jalgaon Police have registered a case of attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons. A manhunt is underway to catch the remaining gang members who fled the scene.
This incident has highlighted the growing boldness of organized cattle theft gangs in rural Maharashtra and sparked concerns over the safety of police officers in the field. Authorities have vowed strict action and intensified patrolling in sensitive areas.
