Ahead of Ashadhi Wari, Bhakti Sopan Bridge in Alandi is dismantled, skywalk incomplete, and temporary bridge under construction. Warkaris now face muddy paths, potholes, and disfigured ghats amid chaotic preparations.
Alandi | June 13, 2025: Just days ahead of the Ashadhi Wari, devotees heading to Saint Dnyaneshwar Mauli’s Samadhi in Alandi are staring at a logistical mess. The Bhakti Sopan Bridge, which thousands of Warkaris use annually during the Ashadhi and Kartiki Wari to cross the Indrayani River, is now being dismantled. In its place, a temporary iron fabricated bridge is under hurried construction — but its completion by June 16 remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, the much-delayed three-way skywalk, part of a multi-crore project under the State Tirtha Kshetra Vikas Yojana, is 90% ready but still not connected to Deulwara, rendering it unusable for the Wari.
During a recent inspection of the Alandi Indrayani Ghat, District Collector Jitendra Dudi observed that neither the existing Bhakti Sopan Bridge nor the Skywalk were suitable for the incoming pilgrimage rush. He instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to dismantle the old bridge and construct a temporary iron one using steel structures near Bhakta Pundalik Temple.
However, the ground reality is grim. The ghats are disfigured, mud and debris are scattered, potholes and open drains abound, and Nagar Parikrama routes are unsafe, making the path treacherous for Warkaris. Excavations are ongoing, and Namami Chandrabhaga Yojana’s ghat repair project, worth ₹3.08 crore, also seems far from completion.
Despite years of planning, delays and administrative negligence have turned this religious site into a construction zone, just as lakhs of devotees are set to arrive.
