Chaos in Hinjewadi IT Park: Potholes, Flooded Roads and Blame Game Frustrate Techies

Hinjewadi IT Park faces chaotic traffic, potholes, and waterlogging issues post-rains. Incomplete drainage work and metro delays worsen the issue. PMRDA and MIDC shift blame while IT workers demand accountability.

Pune | June 03, 2025: Despite various proposals to ease traffic congestion in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, Hinjewadi, the situation has worsened following heavy rains last week. Rain-damaged roads filled with potholes from Phase 1 to Phase 3 have left daily commuters struggling to reach their destinations.

IT professionals are particularly upset — not only with the poor road conditions but also with the slow-paced metro project and narrow roads that add to their woes. After last week’s downpour, traffic jams stretched for hours. Employees reported taking 5 to 6 hours to cover just 5-6 kilometers, especially from Shree Phase to Wakad. Waterlogging and traffic snarls brought daily movement to a standstill, turning roads near Phase 3 into virtual rivers.

A key reason behind this mess is poor planning. Rainwater flowing from Maan-Marunji finds no proper outlet, as several natural drains were blocked or filled in during development by builders and MIDC. Worse still, contractors closed existing drainage channels while laying new roads, allowing water to stagnate on sunken, broken surfaces.

While the problems mount, PMRDA and MIDC continue to pass the buck. MIDC blames water stagnation on iron barricades placed during metro construction, while PMRDA points out that it had already released ₹88 lakh to MIDC for pre-monsoon repairs — work that remains incomplete.

No clear solution has been implemented so far, and citizens are bearing the brunt.
