CIDCO Union Leader Caught in Bribery Trap: ACB Arrests Narendra Hire for Demanding ₹1.5 Lakh

Navi Mumbai | June 21, 2025: CIDCO union leader Narendra Hire was arrested by ACB for accepting ₹1.5 lakh bribe from a suspended engineer. The incident exposes ongoing corruption within CIDCO and raises concerns over union misuse.

A major bribery scandal has emerged within CIDCO as union president Narendra Hire was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting a ₹1.5 lakh bribe. The bribe was allegedly demanded from suspended Executive Engineer Kalyan Patil, who is currently facing an internal departmental inquiry related to a previous bribery case. Hoping to influence the outcome of the inquiry or gain some relief, Hire allegedly pressured Patil for money. Instead of complying, Patil approached the ACB, which laid a trap at CIDCO’s Navi Mumbai headquarters. As planned, Patil handed over the cash, and ACB officials caught Hire red-handed.

This shocking arrest has created unrest within the CIDCO administration, particularly because the accused held a key leadership role in the employee union. It has also been revealed that Hire had demanded ₹4.5 lakh from two other employees, raising suspicions of a broader corruption network. The ACB has registered a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (Amended 2018), at the CBD Belapur police station and will seek custody for further investigation. The bureau aims to determine whether Hire has taken bribes in other instances or operated with accomplices.

This incident has reignited public and political concerns regarding the deep-rooted corruption in CIDCO, especially in departments like land allotment (12.5%), estate, and encroachment. Former CIDCO director Namdev Bhagat has reiterated that nothing in CIDCO moves without bribes, underlining the urgent need for systemic reforms.
