Pune | June 04,2025: The shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic is once again looming over Maharashtra, with health authorities urging citizens to stay cautious. On Tuesday, the state recorded 86 new COVID-19 infections, and four deaths linked to the virus, even as 435 patients recovered and were discharged.
Among the latest infected is Shiv Sena MP Hemant Tukaram Godse from Nashik. While his condition remains stable, doctors have advised him to undergo home quarantine as a preventive measure.
The government’s health bulletin highlights a gradual uptick in cases, especially in urban regions. Mumbai reported 26 cases, Thane 9, Navi Mumbai 6, Pune 27, Pimpri-Chinchwad 3, Kolhapur 2, and Sangli 5. Fortunately, recovery numbers are encouraging. A total of 435 people beat the virus, taking the state’s active caseload to 590.
However, Nagpur reported two fatalities, not directly from COVID-19 but among patients who were also battling severe ailments — one with HIV and tuberculosis, and another with kidney disease. Out of 17 confirmed cases in Nagpur, 11 have recovered, while 4 remain under treatment.
In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the COVID count rose to 8, with 7 patients residing within city limits and one from a rural area now staying in the city. Dr. Abhay Dhanorkar, the District Health Officer, confirmed the cases and reassured that monitoring is in place.
To gear up for any potential surge, hospitals across the state are stepping up preparations. In Mumbai, Cama Hospital, which serves only women and children, has created a 30-bed special unit for COVID-19 patients. The unit is equipped with critical infrastructure including oxygen support, monitoring systems, and emergency medical equipment.
Nationally, India has a aggregate of 4,026 active COVID- 19 cases, with 510 cases in Maharashtra alone. The health department has once again appealed to the public to follow preventive measures, stay alert, and help curb the spread of the virus.
