A clear drone video captured a crocodile in the Koyna river at Karad’s Krishna-Koyna confluence, confirming ongoing danger. Locals are urged to remain cautious while swimming or visiting riverbanks.

Karad | August 5, 2025: The presence of crocodiles at the sacred confluence of the Krishna and Koyna rivers in Karad is no longer a mere rumor. A recent drone video shot by local professional photographer Suresh Pawar has confirmed the chilling reality — a large crocodile was seen roaming freely in the Koyna river near Shukrawar Peth, close to Gote village, around 9 a.m. on Monday.

This is the first time a crocodile has been captured so clearly and closely on camera, unlike the earlier vague sightings through mobile phones. The visual evidence has raised serious safety concerns, especially among locals who frequent the riverbanks for swimming and ritual bathing.

Crocodile Activity No Longer Isolated

In the past few years, crocodile sightings have been reported in the Gote, Khodshi, and Saidapur areas. Monday’s footage now confirms their active presence in both Krishna and Koyna rivers. Wildlife officials had earlier relocated a crocodile from Krishna Canal near Vidyanagar, despite the significant distance from the main river — further underlining how unpredictable these sightings can be.

A previous attack on a swimmer, though non-fatal, had already set off alarms. But the latest evidence points to a persistent and growing risk. With no safety measures currently in place, authorities may be pressed to act soon.

Urgent Appeal for Caution

Despite past incidents, citizens continue to swim and bathe at the confluence, unaware or dismissive of the lurking danger. This latest drone footage serves as a wake-up call. Locals and authorities alike are now being urged to exercise extreme caution near the riverbanks and consider safety advisories to prevent any future tragedy.
