In Jalgaon’s Paladhi village, a family prepared to cremate a man believed dead — until he returned home alive. Mistaken identity led to shock, relief, and an ongoing investigation into the real deceased.
Jalgaon 5 July 2025 : A bizarre and emotional incident stunned residents of Paladhi village in Dharangaon taluka, Jalgaon district, when a man presumed dead and mourned by his family returned home alive — just as his funeral preparations were underway.
65-year-old Raghunath Vaman Khairnar had been missing for four days. On Friday, a mutilated body was discovered on the railway tracks near Paladhi village. Though the face was beyond recognition, the family identified the body based on matching clothes, tattoos, and slippers found nearby. In the presence of police and villagers, the body was sent for an autopsy at the government hospital, and funeral preparations commenced.
However, around 6:30 PM, just as the body was being brought home for cremation, the family received startling news — “Baba has returned home!” Initially dismissing it as impossible, they were left in disbelief when Khairnar himself appeared, walking back from Sai Baba temple, completely unaware of the chaos his absence had caused.
Emotions ran high as the family, shocked and overwhelmed, wept tears of relief and joy. Meanwhile, confusion replaced grief — who, then, was the man lying lifeless on the railway tracks?
Khairnar, reportedly suffering from mental health issues, was known to frequently leave home without notice, a detail that added to the family’s certainty during the body’s earlier identification. However, the true identity of the deceased remains unknown, and police are continuing investigations.
This shocking incident has raised questions about procedural verification in such sensitive cases and underscores the importance of proper identification methods before concluding death.
