A 16-year-old police trainee died by suicide in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after being denied a mobile phone. The incident has sparked renewed concern over rising mobile addiction and adolescent mental health.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar | August 4, 2025: In a heartbreaking and shocking incident, a 16-year-old boy undergoing police recruitment training died by suicide after being denied a mobile phone by his mother. The incident, which occurred in Khawda near Tisgaon, has triggered intense discussions around growing mobile addiction among youth.

The deceased has been identified as Atharva Gopal Tayde, a native of Jalgaon Jamod in Buldhana district. Atharva was currently living with his family in Swatik City, Sajapur Shivar, Waluj, while preparing for police recruitment. On Sunday, after his mother refused to give him a mobile phone, Atharva, in a moment of emotional distress, jumped off a mountain in the Khawda area.

Locals Atul Aade and Swapnil Pawar witnessed the incident and immediately rushed the injured Atharva to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead on arrival. The tragic loss has left the family devastated, particularly the mother, whose cries of anguish at the hospital left many deeply moved.

Waluj MIDC Police led by PSI Salim Sheikh inspected the site and have initiated further investigation into the incident.

Growing Concern Over Mobile Obsession Among Youth

Atharva’s untimely death has reignited concerns about mobile phone addiction among teenagers. What began as a disagreement over a phone ended in a life lost, shattering a family’s dreams. Atharva, who had shown determination and discipline during his police training, had the potential to secure a government job and support his family financially. However, a moment of emotional impulsiveness led to irreversible consequences.

This tragic episode underscores the urgent need for awareness and open dialogue on mental health, digital addiction, and emotional resilience among adolescents.
