Pune | May 26, 2025: In the wake of continuous heavy rains, a security wall of the Riya Shalom Housing Society in the Barangani Mala area of Dhayri came crashing down on five parked vehicles on Sunday. No injuries were reported.
The wall, approximately 50 to 60 feet long and six feet high, gave way due to water seepage and weakening caused by the downpour. At the time of the collapse, vehicles were parked in the adjacent open space commonly used by society residents. The impact damaged two cars and three two-wheelers, causing distress among the vehicle owners.
Officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management Cell, the Fire Department, and the Building Construction Department rushed to the scene and quickly cordoned off the area to avoid further risk. Fire Officer Nilesh Pokale led the emergency response, assisted by team members Ganesh Sasane, Ganpat Padaye, Nitin Bhowad, and Rishikesh Gite. The team safely removed the trapped vehicles and cleared the traffic congestion in the area.
Residents voiced their worries regarding the safety of buildings in the area, asking the authorities and construction teams to guarantee adequate maintenance throughout the monsoon season.
This incident serves as a wake-up call. With monsoon intensifying, residents and housing societies must ensure timely inspections and maintenance of boundary walls and nearby structures. Authorities too must act proactively to prevent such near-miss disasters. Vigilance now is key to avoiding bigger tragedies later.
