DRDO successfully test-fired Pralay missile twice, validating range precision. Developed with DRDO labs and industry partners, the trials pave the way for its near-future induction into Indian Armed Forces
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha | July 29, 2025 –India’s defence preparedness got a major boost as the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted two back-to-back flight tests of the indigenously developed ‘Pralay’ missile on July 28 and 29, 2025. The tests were part of User Evaluation Trials aimed at validating the missile’s maximum and minimum range capabilities.
Both tests were executed with pin-point accuracy, with the missiles precisely following the intended trajectory and successfully hitting the target zones. Key performance parameters were confirmed by data from tracking sensors and systems, including instruments deployed on a ship near the impact point by the Integrated Test Range (ITR).

‘Pralay’ is a solid-propellant, quasi-ballistic missile, designed for high-precision strikes using advanced guidance and navigation systems. It is capable of carrying multiple warhead types to neutralize a variety of enemy targets.
The missile was developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in collaboration with other DRDO labs, such as DRDL, ASL, ARDE, HEMRL, DMRL, TBRL, R&DE (Engineers), and ITR, along with industry partners like Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and numerous MSMEs.
The tests were closely witnessed by senior DRDO scientists, user representatives from the Indian Army and Air Force, and key industry collaborators.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry partners for the successful trials, stating that Pralay’s modern tech would significantly enhance India’s defence capabilities.
DRDO Chairman Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the teams and emphasized that this successful completion of Phase-1 trials has laid the groundwork for the missile’s induction into the Indian Armed Forces in the near future.
