Mumbai | August 5, 2025: In a disturbing incident amid the ongoing crackdown on public pigeon feeding, a 69-year-old man and his daughter were brutally assaulted in Mira Road for objecting to pigeon feeding in their building premises. The incident has raised serious concerns about public safety and civic enforcement.

The incident took place at the DB Ozone building near Thakur Mall. Mahendra Patel (69), a resident of Building 30, confronted a woman named Asha Vyas (56), a resident of Building 29, for feeding pigeons in a public area of the society. In response, Vyas allegedly began verbally abusing him.

On hearing the commotion, Patel’s daughter, Premal (46), rushed downstairs to intervene. When she questioned Vyas about the verbal abuse, the situation escalated. Vyas, along with Somesh Agnihotri and two unidentified individuals, reportedly assaulted Premal. She was struck with an iron rod, strangled, and beaten, according to the complaint.

The Kashimira Police have registered a case against Asha Vyas, Somesh Agnihotri, and two others. The investigation is underway under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Kamble.

This incident follows recent orders from the Mumbai High Court, directing civic authorities to take strict action against pigeon houses and public feeding of pigeons, citing health and hygiene concerns.
