Pune | June 02 , 2025: After several delays, the long-awaited final phase of Maharashtra’s ambitious Samruddhi Mahamarg is finally set to open. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the last stretch—between Igatpuri and Amne—on June 5 in a ceremony at Igatpuri, marking the full operational launch of the 701 km Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway.

Constructed by MSRDC (Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation), this six-lane, access-controlled expressway is India’s most modern highway, built for high-speed travel up to 150 kmph. So far, 625 km of the expressway has been in use. The final 76 km stretch, featuring twin 8-km-long tunnels equipped with German water mist fire safety systems, now connects Bhiwandi to Igatpuri, enabling uninterrupted travel all the way to Nagpur.

Previously, plans were in place to inaugurate this stretch on May 1 (Maharashtra Day), but the event was delayed due to the unavailability of Prime Minister Modi. With this final section open, travel time from Mumbai to Nagpur will now be reduced to just 8 hours. The time to travel from Mumbai to Nashik will also drop from 3 hours 45 minutes to just 2 hours 30 minutes, thanks to the streamlined infrastructure.

Key Features of Samruddhi Highway:

701 km total length

65 flyovers, 24 interchanges, 6 tunnels

Multiple vehicular and pedestrian underpasses

Binary coverts near Kasara  point German tech- based water mist systems

This project is expected to significantly boost connectivity, trade, and regional development across Maharashtra.
