Former BJP leader Arun Porad was caught with an unlicensed pistol at Nagpur airport en route to Delhi. Initially denying ownership, he later confessed. Police have taken him into custody.

Nagpur | July 26, 2025 — Controversies surrounding BJP leaders and functionaries continue to surface, with a fresh incident reported from Nagpur where a former BJP office bearer was caught carrying a country-made pistol and two live cartridges in his bag at the city’s Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.

The accused, identified as Arun Shrikrishna Porad (38), a resident of Yavatmal and former BJP functionary, was scheduled to fly to Delhi on IndiGo flight 6E2213 at 6:45 PM on Friday. During the standard security check, CISF personnel discovered a pistol and two cartridges in his baggage.

Initially, Porad claimed ignorance about how the weapon ended up in his bag, suggesting it may have been placed there without his knowledge. However, during a thorough interrogation, he confessed to owning the weapon, admitting that he had purchased the pistol two months ago. Crucially, he does not possess a valid firearms license.

The CISF detained him immediately and handed him over to the Sonegaon police for further investigation. Sources say Porad is an agricultural trader and runs a dal mill. He was allegedly headed to Delhi on a business visit to a government office.

This incident comes at a time when the BJP is already under scrutiny due to a series of controversies involving its leaders — from alleged assaults to murder links and honey trap accusations.

The police are now investigating how and why Porad was traveling with an unlicensed weapon and whether there are deeper links involved.
