Pune | June 02 , 2025: In a bold move to embed a strong sense of patriotism in young minds, Maharashtra’s School Education Minister Dada Bhuse announced that primary-level military education will soon be introduced from Class I itself. The training, aimed at nurturing the ‘Nation First’ ideology, will be led by ex-servicemen, NCC trainers, sports teachers, and scout-guide instructors.

The announcement came during the closing ceremony of the Summer Youth Summit 2025, a two-day residential camp focused on youth development and leadership.

“Leaders including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and former soldiers’ Welfare Minister Shambhuraj Desai have supported the idea appreciatively. A formal decision will be taken soon,” said Bhuse.

He shared insights from a recent initiative where 48 Zilla Parishad teachers visited Singapore for an educational tour. “The teachers observed that the Singaporean curriculum strongly promotes the concept of ‘Nation First’. We aim to bring similar values into our education system in Maharashtra,” he added.

Starting from the upcoming academic year, significant changes will be seen in the state’s school education. “Through curriculum reforms, we’re focusing on building patriotism not just as a subject, but as a value rooted in practical experience,” said Bhuse.

The minister also announced the implementation of a student health card scheme. During school health check-ups, if any student is found to have health issues, appropriate treatment will be facilitated under this scheme.

In an effort to make education more experiential, students will be taken on study tours to farmer-built dams, where they can witness firsthand the efforts of Baliraja—the hardworking farmer. Visits to banks, hospitals, and historical forts will also be organized to offer practical knowledge and historical awareness.

“Whether it’s the fort of Shivaji Maharaj or the tireless fields of a farmer, we want our students to not just read about these stories, but live them,” Bhuse said.
