Pune | 07 June,2025: A surprise inspection by Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane at the Goa Medical College turned dramatic after he found a senior doctor allegedly misbehaving with patients. Acting swiftly, the minister ordered the immediate suspension of Dr Rudresh from the Casualty Department, making it clear that rude behaviour would not be tolerated in the state’s premier medical facility.
During his unannounced visit, Rane was informed about complaints regarding Dr Rudresh’s conduct with patients. The minister confronted the doctor on the spot and reprimanded him in front of staff and patients. “Either treat people with dignity or leave. I won’t tolerate such behaviour,” he said sternly, warning other staff as well.
Rane’s visit resembled a scene straight out of a film. Upon entering the medical college, he immediately asked for the Chief Medical Officer. When informed that the officer was not immediately present, Rane waited until Dr Rudresh arrived.
Upon meeting him, Rane publicly expressed displeasure. “You are not guiding patients properly. Don’t force me to take strict action. Remove your hands from your pockets, take off your mask and stand properly,” Rane told the doctor. He then ordered that a suspension notice be issued immediately.
Further addressing the situation, the health minister added, “You are suspended. If you wish to file a case, go ahead. But learn to speak respectfully to patients and staff. As a doctor, it is your duty to communicate with compassion.”
The incident has triggered discussions in medical circles, with some supporting the minister’s stand on patient rights, while others questioned the manner in which the issue was handled publicly.
