Rain continues across Maharashtra with orange alerts issued for Mumbai, Pune, and Ghat regions. Tamini Ghat records highest rainfall. Dam water levels rise; discharge begins. Ambenali Ghat closed overnight.
Maharashtra | 20 June 2025: The intensity of rain continues to increase across Maharashtra, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for Mumbai, Pune, Raigad, Satara, and Ratnagiri. The IMD forecasts that rain will persist across the state till June 25, with particularly heavy downpours in the ghat regions of Pune district.
In the last 24 hours, Tamini Ghat recorded the highest rainfall of the season at 230 mm. Other areas such as Lonavala, Shirgaon, Valvan, Ambavane, Khopoli, and Khand have received 150 to 200 mm of rain. With more heavy to very heavy rain expected in the region over the next two days, tourists are being urged to stay cautious.
Due to consistent rain, the Khadakwasla Dam’s water level rose by 1.71 TMC, prompting authorities to begin a precautionary release of 15,000 cusecs of water at 11 PM. Similarly, in Nashik, 530 cusecs were discharged from Gangapur Dam and 4,742 cusecs from Darna Dam, as water levels surged due to overnight rainfall. People living near the Godaghat area in Nashik have been placed on alert, especially as water has reached near the base of the Dutondya Maruti idol.
Meanwhile, Western Ghats in Satara district have witnessed relentless rainfall for two consecutive days, leading to frequent landslides and dense fog along the Poladpur Ghat near Mahabaleshwar. As a safety measure, the Satara and Raigad district administrations have announced an overnight closure (7 PM to 7 AM) of the Ambenali Ghat Road, connecting Mahabaleshwar and Poladpur. District Collector Santosh Patil confirmed the move via an official press release, citing increasing landslide incidents.
