Hindustani Bhau’s abusive comments on Kolhapur’s Madhuri elephant issue spark outrage statewide. Political leaders and citizens condemn his remarks; Shiv Sainiks warn of action over insults to Kolhapur.

Kolhapur | August 6, 2025: The emotional campaign to bring back Madhuri, the beloved elephant of Nandani village, has taken a political and social turn, and now turned into a full-blown controversy after social media influencer Vikas Pathak, popularly known as Hindustani Bhau, posted a video supporting Vantara and hurling obscene abuses at the people of Kolhapur.

The issue began when Madhuri was relocated from Nandani village to the Vantara sanctuary following a High Court directive. While the villagers claim she was taken against their will, citing emotional and cultural ties, forest officials and animal rights groups argue the move was made for her safety and well-being. The decision has since snowballed into a massive public movement across Kolhapur, with leaders from various political parties joining hands to demand Madhuri’s return.

Amid this emotionally charged backdrop, Hindustani Bhau released a video on social media accusing Kolhapur residents of politicizing the issue ahead of elections. He referenced a 2017 incident where Madhuri allegedly attacked local Mahants, after which politician Raju Shetty reportedly wrote to the forest department asking for her relocation. Bhau further claimed PETA had also raised concerns, and that the High Court’s order was in the elephant’s best interest.

However, his message crossed the line when he used vulgar and offensive language against the people of Kolhapur, saying, “Use some brains… don’t be anyone’s food,” followed by highly abusive remarks.

The reaction to his video was swift and furious. Across Maharashtra, citizens have condemned the derogatory comments, demanding action. In Mumbai, Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) worker Prashant Bhise took direct aim at Bhau, warning him in no uncertain terms: “Vikas Pathak, be ready now. We will teach you what Kolhapuri hustle means — by beating you with Kolhapuri shoes,” he said, signaling that the insult won’t go unanswered.

The Madhuri elephant case, already layered with emotional and political threads, has now become a flashpoint of regional pride, social media ethics, and political opportunism. With elections on the horizon, the incident has only added fuel to an already sensitive fire.
