Kalepadal police busted an illegal liquor distillery in Handewadi, arresting one and seizing material worth ₹4.13 lakh. Despite ongoing crackdowns, such illegal businesses persist in Pune’s suburbs
Pune | June 13, 2025: Despite orders to shut down illegal businesses, a country liquor distillery was uncovered in Kanjarbhat Basti on Handewadi Road. Acting on a tip-off, a Kalepadal police team led by Senior Inspector Mansingh Patil and Assistant Inspector Amit Shete raided the location and arrested Naveen Dilip Binawat (54), a resident of Handewadi Road, Hadapsar.
During the operation, police confiscated 53 liquor cans, one barrel, and other equipment, all valued at ₹4.13 lakh. A case has been registered under Section 123 of the Indian Justice Code and Section 65(E) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949.
This action highlights the ongoing issue of illegal liquor units flourishing in Pune’s suburban pockets, often resurfacing despite repeated crackdowns. The Kalepadal police team, including officers Amol Phadtare and others, carried out the successful raid and assured continued vigilance against such activities.
