IMD has issued a yellow alert for Konkan, Ghats, and Vidarbha due to heavy rain risk. Citizens must stay cautious. Farmers should ensure field drainage and watch for pest and crop damage.
Mumbai | July 30, 2025: Though rainfall has eased slightly across Maharashtra in recent days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has once again issued a ‘yellow alert’ for several parts of the state, warning of heavy rains today, particularly in Konkan, the Western Ghats, and Vidarbha regions. Citizens are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
Yellow Alert in Konkan, Ghats, and Vidarbha
According to IMD, districts like Raigad and Ratnagiri in Konkan, along with the Ghats of Pune and Satara, are likely to receive heavy rainfall. The alert includes warnings of possible landslides, traffic disruption, and tree falls in these hilly areas. Additionally, extremely heavy rainfall has been predicted in some parts of North Madhya Maharashtra Ghats.
In Vidarbha, the entire region continues to experience intense rainfall, prompting another yellow alert for today. Prolonged rain may impact crop health and growth, so farmers are advised to take timely preventive measures.
Light to Moderate Rain in Marathwada
Meanwhile, Beed, Latur, and Nanded districts in Marathwada are expected to see light to moderate rainfall. A ‘green alert’ has been issued for these areas, indicating minimal risk.
Advisory for Farmers
Agricultural experts urge farmers to ensure proper drainage in waterlogged fields to prevent root rot and fungal infections. Weed management and crop spraying may be necessary in some cases. If symptoms of pest or disease appear on kharif crops like soybean, tur, moong, and urad, farmers should contact the agriculture department immediately.
Administrative Measures and Appeal
The district administrations are actively monitoring the situation. Citizens, especially in yellow alert regions, are advised to stay indoors unless necessary, avoid hilly terrain, and follow IMD advisories. Farmers are urged to stay in contact with local agriculture officers to protect their standing crops.
