Jalgaon | June 21: A heart-wrenching hit-and-run incident has shaken the Mahabal area of Jalgaon district, where a woman pedestrian lost her life after being struck by a speeding car driven by a drunk driver. The entire accident was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral, raising public outrage.
The victim, Vandana Sunil Gujarathi, was walking along the road on Thursday night when the incident took place. Suddenly, a speeding car approached from behind and hit her with full force, leaving her critically injured. Shocked bystanders rushed to her aid and immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital. Tragically, despite all medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Meanwhile, the driver attempted to flee the scene after the accident. However, alert local citizens managed to intercept and detain him, preventing what could have become another unresolved hit-and-run case. The accused has been identified as Shivpal Saini, reportedly a police officer himself. Preliminary investigations have revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Not only did Saini hit Vandana, but CCTV footage also shows him colliding with other vehicles while recklessly driving through the area. The case has now been registered as culpable homicide at the Ramanand Police Station, and a detailed investigation is underway.
The tragic death of an innocent pedestrian due to drunken driving has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter enforcement of DUI laws, especially when law enforcement personnel are themselves found violating them. The residents of Jalgaon are now demanding swift legal action and accountability.
