In Jalgaon’s Bhadgaon taluka, sand mafias assaulted revenue officials during a crackdown on illegal sand transport. Twelve accused booked, one arrested. The incident raises serious questions about rule of law.

Jalgaon | June 25, 2025 – The grip of illegal sand mining continues to tighten around Maharashtra, with yet another violent incident exposing the audacity of the sand mafia. In a shocking turn of events from Ghodde Shivar in Bhadgaon taluka, revenue department officials were assaulted by a group of sand mafias while carrying out a legal crackdown on unauthorized sand transportation.

According to preliminary reports, the incident took place when revenue officials seized two tractors carrying illegally mined sand and were in the process of transporting them to the Bhadgaon Tehsil Office. However, their movement was abruptly halted when 10 to 12 sand mafia members intercepted the team mid-route and violently assaulted the government employees.

A case has been officially registered at the Bhadgaon Police Station against 12 individuals involved in the attack. One person, reportedly a policeman, has been arrested, while a search operation is underway to nab the remaining accused who are currently absconding.

This disturbing attack has once again brought the focus back to the growing boldness of illegal sand mining cartels operating across Maharashtra. Despite frequent crackdowns, the ruthless retaliation by these groups raises serious concerns about law enforcement’s ability to control the menace.

The incident has also sparked public outrage and has reignited debates about the safety of government officials who are on the frontlines of anti-mining operations. With sand mafias attacking officers in broad daylight, the question looms large—is the sand mafia truly above the law?
