Jayant Patil resigns as NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) state chief after seven years; Shashikant Shinde to take over on July 15, vowing to boost leadership and address core public issues.
Mumbai | July 12, 2025: In a significant political shift in Maharashtra, Jayant Patil has stepped down from his role as the state president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar. Veteran party leader Shashikant Shinde has been named as his successor and is set to officially assume the position on July 15.
Patil, who had been at the helm of the state unit for the past seven years, had recently expressed his desire to step aside and allow fresh leadership to take charge. During the party’s foundation day event on June 10, he stated that he had been given ample opportunities by Sharad Pawar over the years and that it was time for a generational shift within the party ranks.
Following his appointment, Shashikant Shinde thanked Sharad Pawar and senior party leadership for their confidence in him. He remarked that he would give his full dedication to strengthening the party’s presence and structure in the state. Shinde also highlighted the need to focus on grooming young leadership and addressing key concerns like rising unemployment and the challenges faced by the farming community.
