As excitement brews over the India-England Test series starting this Friday at Headingley, a surprising development involving Karun Nair has come to light. Just as fans speculated on whether he would be part of India’s playing XI, it has been reported that Karun has decided to exit the Vidarbha team before the upcoming domestic season, making headlines beyond the international series.
According to a Cricbuzz report, Karun Nair, who had a phenomenal 2023–24 and 2024–25 domestic season with Vidarbha, is set to return to his home team Karnataka. Nair had left Karnataka two years ago after struggling with form and had since revived his career with consistent performances for Vidarbha.
In the last Ranji Trophy season, Nair was one of the standout performers, scoring 863 runs with 4 centuries, including a crucial 88-run knock in the final, which led Vidarbha to victory. In addition, he scored five consecutive centuries in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, a rare achievement, even though Vidarbha fell short in the final.
However, Karun is not the only major departure from the Vidarbha squad. Jitesh Sharma, who captained the team in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, is also moving on. Jitesh is expected to join Baroda, where he’ll reunite with Krunal Pandya, his RCB teammate and current Baroda captain. Jitesh also played a crucial role in RCB’s IPL 2025 title win, further boosting his domestic prospects.
These developments hint at major reshuffles in the domestic cricket circuit, just as the international spotlight turns to the India vs England series.
