Maharashtra to Launch Comprehensive Farm Road Policy — CM Fadnavis Announces Committee Under Revenue Minister

Maharashtra

Maharashtra will form a committee to create a new farm road policy, pooling funds from various schemes. The plan aims to boost rural connectivity, benefiting farmers with legal, wide, and time-bound road infrastructure.

Mumbai | July 12, 2025: In a significant step to empower rural farmers and improve connectivity to agricultural lands, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the formation of a high-level committee to design a comprehensive and coordinated farm road policy. This new strategy aims to ensure that roads reach every farmer’s field across Maharashtra.

The policy will pool funds from various government departments to speed up the construction of agricultural roads. The announcement was made during a session in the Legislative Assembly, where BJP MLA Abhimanyu Pawar raised critical issues and practical suggestions regarding rural road infrastructure.

CM Fadnavis stated that the committee, to be headed by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, will submit its report within a month. The goal is to utilize resources from multiple schemes, such as the ’25-15′ village road scheme, by potentially diverting 50% of those funds for farm roads.

Revenue Minister Bawankule shared five major action points that the committee and the government will prioritize:

  1. Legal registration of agricultural roads, road surveying, and village map integration.
  2. A mandatory minimum width of 12 feet for all farm roads.
  3. A road numbering system through Jamabandi Commissioners.
  4. A dedicated fund allocation using Employment Guarantee, Rural Development, and Revenue Department resources.
  5. A time-bound completion program for all farm road construction.

The state government highlighted the long-term advantages for farmers under the new policy:

  • Simplified transport of agricultural produce.
  • Reduction in disputes over land and access.
  • Official road recognition under legal provisions.
  • Enhanced rural development and market access.

“Farm roads are not a luxury but a necessity for rural prosperity. This policy will be a game-changer,” said CM Fadnavis.
