Monsoon strengthens in Maharashtra with heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Pune, and Ghats. Raigad faces a red alert, and thunderstorms are expected across Vidarbha. IMD warns of more rain in coming hours.

Mumbai | June 16 2025:
The monsoon has picked up momentum across Maharashtra, with continuous downpours reported in Mumbai, Pune, and several Ghat regions since last night. As rains lash the Konkan coast and the Western Ghats, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple warnings, including a Red Alert for Raigad and Orange Alerts for several other regions.

The IMD has warned of stormy rain and lightning in parts of Mumbai, Vidarbha, and the Ghats, urging residents to remain alert.

Current Weather Conditions

Two cyclonic circulations—one over South Madhya Maharashtra at an altitude of 7.6 km and another over the Bay of Bengal (3.1 to 7.6 km altitude)—are fueling the monsoon’s strength. As a result, heavy rain is expected to progress across Vidarbha, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
