Lonavala tourist spots face restrictions till August 31 due to monsoon risks. Swimming, selfies, alcohol, speeding, and littering are banned to prevent accidents and ensure public safety amid growing tourist numbers

With the onset of the monsoon and a surge in tourist footfall, the Pune district administration has enforced strict safety restrictions across popular Lonavala tourist destinations to prevent accidents and maintain order.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi has issued prohibitory orders applicable until August 31, covering hotspots like Ekvira Devi Temple, Karla and Bhaje Caves, Bhaje Waterfall, Lohagad and Visapur Forts, Tiger and Lions Point, Tikona Fort, Pawana Dam, and Shivling Point.
The decision follows rising incidents of road accidents and drowning, as well as chaotic traffic conditions observed by District Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill during his recent inspections of local access roads.
The restrictions include:
- Ban on swimming or entering fast-flowing water
- Prohibition on sitting under waterfalls or dangerous water flow
- No selfies or video recording near risky locations such as cliffs, waterfalls, and sharp turns
- Alcohol consumption, transport, and sale near natural waterfalls strictly forbidden
- No vehicle halts at unsafe roadside spots or reckless driving
- Ban on littering plastic, glass, food, and thermocol waste in public areas
- No loud DJ or speaker use in public places
- Entry of two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and six-wheelers into waterfall and dam zones is restricted
Officials emphasized that these measures are meant to ensure safety and prevent untoward incidents during the high-risk monsoon season. Tourists are urged to cooperate with local authorities and follow guidelines for a safe visit.
