A Mumbai man killed his 5-year-old stepdaughter over domestic tensions and dumped her body into the sea. He was arrested after CCTV footage exposed his role. Police are investigating further.

Mumbai | July 16, 2025: In a heart-wrenching incident from Mumbai, a 40-year-old man has been arrested for strangling his 5-year-old stepdaughter and dumping her body in the Arabian Sea. The accused, identified as Imran Sheikh, was taken into custody after Colaba police recovered the child’s body near Sassoon Dock on Tuesday morning.

According to the police, Imran initially tried to mislead the investigation. He accompanied his wife Nazia, the child’s mother, to Antop Hill Police Station to file a missing person’s complaint. A kidnapping case was registered against unknown persons at that time.

However, suspicions grew during the investigation. CCTV footage from Antop Hill and nearby areas revealed the girl walking with Imran, raising red flags. The police then closely tracked Sheikh’s movements, ultimately detaining and interrogating him. During questioning, he confessed to killing the girl and dumping her in the sea.

The shocking motive behind the murder points to growing domestic tensions. Nazia is in her third marriage and Imran in his second. The child was Nazia’s daughter from her previous marriage, and Imran reportedly disapproved of her living with them. The girl would refer to Imran as “Abba” (father), something he apparently disliked deeply. Repeated quarrels over the child strained the couple’s relationship, culminating in this gruesome act.

The police have now booked Imran Sheikh for murder and destruction of evidence. Further investigation is underway to determine the full sequence of events and psychological motives behind the crime.
