After people died in the Mumbra train accident, MNS led a protest demanding a separate Mumbai Railway Board, better safety, compensation, and planning. An 8-day ultimatum has been given to officials

Mumbai | June 11, 2025: In the aftermath of the Mumbra local train accident that claimed four innocent lives, public anger has surged across Mumbai. Citizens and commuters have lashed out at the railway administration and the government for negligence and lack of planning.

Taking a firm stand, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) organized a massive protest march from Gavdevi Maidan to Thane railway station, raising strong demands including the creation of a separate railway board exclusively for Mumbai. MNS leaders emphasized that around 20 passengers die daily in train-related accidents, highlighting an urgent need for systematic reform and immediate action.

Demands by MNS:

MNS leader Avinash Jadhav handed over the demands to railway officials and issued an 8-day ultimatum to take concrete action. The protest saw participation from numerous daily commuters, especially women, who voiced their struggles of daily overcrowding and safety risks in local trains.

The tragic incident and rising commuter deaths have once again put the spotlight on the fragile state of Mumbai’s suburban rail network, which carries millions of passengers daily. MNS strongly stated that Mumbai, which generates crores in revenue, deserves its own planning body for rail infrastructure.

The public now awaits the government’s response, and whether the outcry will lead to meaningful change in Mumbai’s lifeline system.
