Navi Mumbai International Airport will begin domestic flights by September 2025. With world-class infrastructure, seamless transport links, and India’s biggest cargo depot, it’s set to surpass Mumbai Airport by 2036
Navi Mumbai, June 25 — The much-anticipated Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is gearing up to begin domestic flight operations by September 2025. This update was shared by MP Shrirang Barne after a detailed site visit on Tuesday, accompanied by Adani Airports CEO Minal Naik and CIDCO officials including Geeta Pillay.
Barne confirmed that Terminal One will be the first to open and is expected to handle up to 20 million passengers annually.
A Green, Future-Ready Airport
Spread across 1,150 hectares in Panvel, the airport is being developed as a green and pollution-free facility. An underground pipeline system will be used for aircraft refueling, and the airport will feature India’s first interterminal connectivity system.
It will also offer seamless access via Metro lines 1, 2, and 3, suburban trains, water taxis, and the upcoming Mumbai-Hyderabad bullet train. Direct connectivity with Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is also planned.
Cargo Capacity and Expansion Timeline
The airport boasts a 3.7-kilometer runway, long enough to support the landing of Airbus A-380s and large cargo aircraft. It will also house India’s largest cargo depot, along with four terminals, a VIP terminal, and a dedicated general aviation facility for private aircraft.
Barne noted that 80 percent of the construction, including Terminal Two, is expected to be complete by 2029. The entire project is on track for full completion by 2036.
