In Odisha’s Gajapati district, a junior engineer was given urine-mixed water, leading to health issues. A constable was arrested following a complaint and initial lab tests confirming contamination
Odisha | August 02, 2025: In a disturbing incident from Odisha’s Gajapati district, a newly appointed junior engineer at the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) office in Paralakhemundi was allegedly given a bottle of water laced with human urine, leading to his health deterioration. The engineer, Sachin Gowda, had joined duty on July 18 and lodged a formal complaint five days later at Udayagiri police station.
Gowda claimed that an assistant constable handed him the suspicious water bottle, and upon sipping it, he noticed an unusual odor and taste. His suspicion was further validated when two other staff members also tasted it and confirmed the abnormality. The sample was sent to the RWSS lab, where initial tests revealed 2.0 ppm ammonia—indicating possible urine contamination.
Following the complaint, police issued a notice to the constable and later arrested him, though Gajapati Superintendent of Police Jatindra Kumar Panda stated that there was “no prima facie evidence” yet and further investigation is underway. Samples from both the engineer and the constable have been collected, and the seized liquid has been sent for forensic testing.
