Pune | June 06, 2025: A newly asphalted road built at a cost of ₹70 lakh between Wadgaon Sheri Phata and Sainikwadi has been severely damaged by rains just fifteen days after completion, sparking anger among residents and raising questions about the quality of work.
The 300-meter-long road, reconstructed this summer after removing the older layer, was expected to improve connectivity to Ahilyanagar Road for locals from Wadgaon Sheri, Sainikwadi, and students of Vidyankur School. However, the road has already started deteriorating, with loose gravel scattered and large potholes forming throughout the stretch.
Former corporator Shweta Khose-Galande has filed an official complaint with the Pune Municipal Commissioner, demanding strict action against the contractor and the concerned municipal engineers responsible for the shoddy work. Out of the total ₹1 crore sanctioned for the road project, ₹70 lakh was spent on this specific portion.
Residents say the road had been lying dug up for months under the guise of repairs and was finally asphalted only after repeated public pressure. But the poor quality of work has turned the road into a safety hazard. Daily commuters now face risk of accidents, and school-going children and senior citizens are particularly affected.
Compounding the issue is the repeated digging of the road for water pipeline work, which has left behind unfilled or poorly patched potholes. The presence of a water tank near Wadgaon Sheri Phata also contributes to the problem, as water from filling tankers constantly leaks onto the road, keeping it waterlogged and worsening the damage.
Locals have demanded immediate repairs, accountability from PMC officials, and long-term solutions to prevent such repeated waste of public funds.
