After controversial remarks on Marathi, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey skipped the Sansad Ratna ceremony held at Maharashtra Sadan. Seven MPs from Maharashtra were honoured, while Dubey avoided the spotlight again.
New Delhi | July 27, 2025: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who earlier stirred controversy with remarks during the Marathi vs. Amarathi debate, has once again found himself in the spotlight—this time for skipping the prestigious Sansad Ratna Award ceremony held at Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi.
According to reports, Dubey avoided the event despite being one of the awardees, allegedly due to the venue being associated with Maharashtra. The tension stems from an earlier controversy where Dubey reportedly mocked Marathi sentiments with the remark “Patak Patak Ke Maarenge,” provoking backlash across Maharashtra. MNS chief Raj Thackeray had responded strongly at the time, and sources claim that three women MPs from Maharashtra even confronted Dubey in the Parliament lobby, leaving him visibly uneasy. In a dramatic moment, he was said to have left the scene chanting “Jai Maharashtra.”
This time, Dubey’s absence at Maharashtra Sadan during the Sansad Ratna ceremony has raised fresh eyebrows. The event was attended by Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and saw seven MPs from Maharashtra being honored for their outstanding parliamentary performance: Smita Wagh, Medha Kulkarni, Supriya Sule, Shrirang Barne, Naresh Mhaske, Arvind Sawant, and Varsha Gaikwad.
While Maharashtra had the highest number of awardees this year, states like Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan followed with two MPs each, and one MP each from Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam were also felicitated.
Political observers believe Dubey’s calculated absence reflects his discomfort after the backlash from his earlier statements and confrontations related to Marathi pride.
