Locals in Pandharpur oppose CM Fadnavis’ corridor project using saint Namdev’s verses in unique posters, urging him to protect the town’s cultural identity. Public talks begin from July 25.
Pune | 23 July 2025: In a striking form of protest, locals in Pandharpur have opposed Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ dream project—the Pandharpur Corridor—using verses from the revered Abhangs of Sant Namdev Maharaj. Posters quoting saint poetry have been put up across the temple town, directly addressing CM Fadnavis, creating a wave of discussion during his visit.
A prominent poster near the VIP gate of the Vitthal Temple reads:
“Watan Amchi Mirashi Pandhari… Vithobache Ghari Nandanuk ||”
This verse, drawn from Namdev Maharaj’s Abhang, has been turned into both a respectful welcome and a heartfelt plea, urging Fadnavis to preserve Pandharpur’s heritage.

The Pandharpur Corridor, inspired by the development models of Kashi and Ujjain, envisions large-scale changes in the temple town. However, the plan involves the acquisition of land from nearly 600 homes, triggering concerns among residents about cultural erosion and displacement.
In anticipation of a public consultation scheduled from July 25, locals—under the banner of Tirth Kshetra Bachao Samiti—have asserted that Pandharpur is not just a town, but their “watan” (homeland), and that they are merely resting at Lord Vithoba’s doorstep.
The protest, while gentle in tone, strongly conveys the community’s hope that the spiritual essence and cultural legacy of Pandharpur remain untouched. Interestingly, the posters conclude by welcoming Fadnavis with respect, reflecting the community’s faith that he will uphold their sentiments.
Fadnavis arrived in Pandharpur to attend the 675th Sanjeev Samadhi ceremony of Sant Namdev Maharaj, amid an atmosphere charged with cultural emotion and silent resistance.
