In Panipat, 18-year-old Annu died by suicide after prolonged menstrual health struggles. Despite treatment, her condition worsened, causing mental distress. Police are investigating the case, post-autopsy.
Panipat | July 24, 2025: A deeply tragic incident has surfaced from Panipat, Haryana, where 18-year-old Annu allegedly died by suicide due to prolonged menstrual health complications. Her death has shaken the local community and once again highlighted the urgent need for better awareness and healthcare around menstrual health.
Annu, who had celebrated her birthday just eight days ago on July 14, was the eldest of four siblings in a labourer’s family. She had recently completed her Class 12 education and was pursuing an ITI and a computer course, hoping for a brighter future.
Her father, Surendra, recounted the heartbreaking sequence of events. On the day of the incident, he had taken his younger daughter to a hospital and returned home around 4:30 pm. Annu made tea for him and went upstairs. A little later, when he went to check on her, he found the room door slightly ajar — and Annu had taken the extreme step, using her dupatta to hang herself from a fan.
According to Surendra, Annu had been battling menstrual-related physical issues for some time and was under medical treatment. However, her condition showed little improvement, which led to mental distress and emotional breakdown. He believes the continued pain and stress pushed her to take her life.
Police arrived at the scene promptly and, after the autopsy, handed over the body to the family. Based on the father’s statement, a case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
This incident underscores the urgent need for accessible menstrual healthcare, open dialogue, and mental health support, especially for young women in semi-urban and rural areas.
