Pune Customs arrested a passenger smuggling ₹10.5 crore worth hydroponic cannabis from Bangkok. Officials seized the potent drug at Pune Airport, suspecting a larger smuggling racket under investigation.

Pune | 27 July, 2025: In a major drug bust, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Pune Customs arrested a passenger at Pune Airport for smuggling hydroponic cannabis worth ₹10.5 crore. The accused, identified as Abhinay Amarnath Yadav, had arrived from Bangkok on July 24 and was nabbed after officials noticed suspicious behavior.

Upon checking his luggage, customs officers found a suspicious green substance, later confirmed to be hydroponic cannabis — a highly potent form of cannabis grown using soil-less hydroponic technology. This variant is more powerful than conventional cannabis and is often smuggled in high-value trafficking operations.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Officials suspect that this seizure could be linked to a larger international smuggling network. Further investigations are underway to uncover more links in this racket.

The bust has highlighted growing concerns about the use of international flights for drug trafficking, especially with newer forms of cannabis gaining ground in illicit markets.
