Pune | May 16, 2025: On Thursday, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale made a bold statement saying that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) must be integrated with India—and Pakistan must prepare itself for future battles if it does not comply.
Claiming over 100 terrorists had been eliminated across the border, the Minister of State for Social Justice praised the Indian Army for its recent onslaught under “Operation Sindoor,” speaking in front of a news conference. Our Army has taught Pakistan a lesson, he remarked. Although there is a temporary ceasefire, our military is fully ready and the operation is far from done.
Athawale underlined that India’s posture is still unambiguous: terrorism will be greeted with action. “We have consistently argued in Parliament that PoK is indivisible with India. Should Pakistan fail to turn it over, we would not hesitate to wage next conflicts to recover it.
Reiterating India’s position, Athawale discounted the likelihood of outside negotiations on Kashmir, citing earlier efforts by U.S. President Donald Trump to arbitrate. “This concerns national sovereignty in general.Bullets will be responded with other bullets, he said.
He also dug at opposition groups, exhorting them not to politicize national security. We shouldn’t demand evidence of every operation. The acts of the Army speak for themselves, he said.
In regards to the political reconciliation between split Thackeray cousins Uddhav and Raj, Athawale stated that he hopes differences of ideology will make them return.
“Even if they join hands, Congress might not embrace Raj Thackeray in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA),” he added.
Turning his focus on social concerns, the leader of the Republican Party of India (A) urged all Dalit leaders to come together for the welfare of their community. “If that happens, I won’t even care about keeping my ministerial post,” he said fervently.
Reacting to a query over claimed cash leakage by Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat of Maharashtra, Athawale voiced worry. Such deviance of money intended for the less fortunate must to cease. Maharashtra should enact legislation akin to those of Karnataka, whereby statutes safeguard welfare monies,” he advised.
