Mumbai, April 12, 2025: Veteran bureaucrat Praveen Pardeshi is expected to be appointed as the Chief Economic Advisor to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This marks a significant return to the state’s administrative core for the retired IAS officer, who has long been regarded as a trusted aide of Fadnavis.
A 1985-batch officer, Pardeshi has held several high-ranking positions in his distinguished career. He previously served as Additional Chief Secretary during Fadnavis’s earlier term as Chief Minister. His administrative acumen also earned him key roles such as Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai, Principal Secretary of the Revenue and Forest Department, and Secretary to former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Pardeshi’s appointment comes at a time when Maharashtra has set its sights on becoming a $1 trillion economy. As Chief Economic Advisor, he will be responsible for advising the state government on financial planning, public spending, and strategies to accelerate economic growth. His extensive experience is expected to play a vital role in helping the state navigate fiscal challenges and implement transformative development policies.
Currently, Pardeshi serves as the CEO of MITRA (Maharashtra Institution for Transformation), a state think tank modeled after NITI Aayog. He also chairs the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee and the Bombay Natural History Society.
Beyond his roles in the state, Pardeshi has contributed at the global level through his work with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), where he worked on post-disaster recovery and resilience-building initiatives.
Pardeshi’s impending appointment signals the Fadnavis administration’s intent to bring seasoned expertise into the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, particularly to guide the state’s ambitious economic roadmap.
