Pune | June 06, 2025: In an effort to safeguard Ektanagari, located on Narveer Tanaji Malusare Road (Sinhgad Road), from recurring monsoon floods, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed constructing a protective flood wall around the society. The project, estimated to cost ₹300 crore, has been submitted to the state government’s Disaster Management Department for approval.
Last monsoon, heavy rainfall forced an increased water release from the Khadakwasla Dam chain, severely impacting areas within the designated blue flood line, including Ektanagari. Floodwaters damaged residents’ homes and essential supplies, leaving the community vulnerable.
During the crisis, the then Chief Minister had visited the flood-affected locality and promised rehabilitation measures. Although a preliminary report was prepared, the proposed rehabilitation options encountered technical obstacles, delaying their implementation.
In response, PMC has now advanced the alternative solution of constructing a riverbank protective wall to prevent future flooding. Similar protective structures have already been successfully installed at Kamgar Putla, Mangalwar Peth, Patil Estate, and Shantinagar slum areas.
Following these models, PMC’s plan for Ektanagari aims to provide permanent flood protection. The corporation has formally requested funding from the state to move forward with this critical infrastructure project.
