Pune Airport Expansion Plans Given the Boost City Gets Ready for Future Aviation Expansion

Pune Airport expansion will be done at 200 acres with land from the Air Force and private plot holdings. Passenger facilities and terminal upgrades plan to cater to 15 lakh additional passengers every time.

Pune, April 29, 2025: Sweats are gaining momentum to add Pune Airport by 200 acres in view of the megacity’s long- term development in the next 100 years. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Muralidhar Mohol, unveiled key details in the induction of the Udan Yatra Cafe at the new terminal on Monday.

In the presence of Airport Director Santosh Dhoke and members of the Advisory Committee, Mohol stressed multiple Air Force land acquisition( 25 acres) and private( 65 acres). Besides he added,” The land today only totals 44 acres. Rather than having the radar move, the Air Force will be provided twofold as valuable land elsewhere, and they have responded graciously so far”.

Addressing the media, Mohol highlighted the vision of the central government to measure the aeronautics industry mostly by 2047, with a target of 400 operational airfields. India had only 74 airfields prior to 2014, but now it has 160, courtesy of the UDAN scheme that has linked 125 cities and benefited 1.5 crore trippers
Udan Yatra Cafe at Pune field is fourth in India after Kolkata, Chennai, and Ahmedabad. Mumbai field would be the next.

Redevelopment of the aged outstation is underway as well. The passenger capacity accruals involved include fresh check- in counters and a bigger security area, which would assist in having space for accommodating 15 lakh additional passengers each time.
