In a stunning betrayal, a 30-year-old Bavdhan resident in Pune became a victim of a ₹10.48 lakh scam by his childhood friend, Sudarshan Ashok Bodkhe, and two others, Manisha Bansode and Puneet, who promised to arrange a loan from a nonexistent finance company. The scam that took place between September 2024 and March 2025 has resulted in a case being filed at Kothrud Police Station against the three for cheating and fraud.

The victim, a relationship manager at a firm, was experiencing financial problems and could not get a bank loan because of a low credit rating. He trusted Bodkhe, who reportedly had contacts at Adi Finance and Siddhivinayak Finance, promising a ₹35 lakh loan at 10% interest. At a meeting at a Burger King shop in Kothrud on September 24, 2024, Bodkhe had persuaded the victim to remit ₹10,48,551 towards multiple charges as loan approval formalities. Later, the victim got mails allegedly from Adi Finance, stating that loan had been approved and seeking an additional amount of ₹29,289 towards insurance and processing charges.

Increasingly suspicious, the victim asked for the office address of the finance company and documents of loan approval. Bodkhe’s evasive answers and refusal to give papers created suspicion. On March 20, 2025, Bodkhe insisted the loan was approved but asked for an extra ₹50,000 to complete the transfer, still avoiding requests for papers. When asked for a refund, Bodkhe admitted the loan could not be processed and quickly left.

When examined more closely, the victim found that there was no company logo or digital signature in the emails and found through investigations that neither Adi Finance nor Siddhivinayak Finance were registered non-banking financial companies. Finding out that he had been cheated by his friend, the victim went to the police. Sub-Inspector Dhanwade is investigating this sophisticated fraud.
