Pune Ring Road Project Enters Final Land Acquisition Phase

Pune Ring Road’s eastern section faces land acquisition deadline; 30 hectares remain across 10 villages for 62-km corridor

Pune, April 17, 2025 – The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation  has intensified efforts to complete land acquisition for the Pune’s  eastern section of  ambitious Ring Road project, setting a firm deadline of monthend for finalizing the remaining 30 hectares across ten villages in the Bhor talukas, Haveli, Khed and Purandar, This critical infrastructure project, designed to alleviate Pune’s chronic traffic congestion and enhance regional connectivity, has already seen complete land acquisition for its western segment, while the eastern corridor’s acquisition stands at 235 out of the required 256 hectares.

Spanning 62 kilometers, the eastern stretch will connect Markal on Nagar Road to Varve Budruk on the Pune-Satara Road, passing through strategically important areas including the future Purandar International Airport site. The route’s alignment through Khed’s industrial belt, Haveli’s rapidly urbanizing zones, Purandar’s upcoming aviation hub, and Bhor’s ecologically sensitive terrain makes it a transformative project for the region’s development. MSRDC officials confirm the project will be executed in two phases, with the initial phase focusing on a 66-kilometer priority section before expanding to the complete eastern corridor encompassing eleven villages including Solu, Lonikand, Koregaon Mul, and Sonori.

Recent high-level review meetings between MSRDC and district administration have emphasized resolving outstanding land disputes to meet the month-end deadline. Once acquisition is complete, the tendering process for construction will commence immediately, with the entire project slated for completion by 2026-27. The ring road’s designation as a state highway underscores its importance in Pune’s infrastructure development, promising to divert heavy vehicle traffic from city centers while improving access to the Purandar airport and surrounding industrial areas.

The project’s successful implementation is expected to catalyze economic growth across the region, particularly in Purandar’s emerging aviation sector and Khed’s manufacturing clusters, while significantly reducing travel times between Pune and Satara. With the deadline approaching, all stakeholders are working to address the final acquisition challenges and kickstart construction on this vital infrastructure initiative.
