Pune| 06 June, 2025: A disturbing picture is emerging along the Pune–Solapur National Highway, especially near Boribhadak village in Daund Taluka, where heaps of garbage are being dumped recklessly on forest department land. What was once a clean stretch of road is now resembling an open garbage depot. The unbearable stench is making life miserable for commuters and nearby residents. Meanwhile, officials remain silent.

Plastic bags, spoiled meat, fish waste, empty tea cups, vegetable scraps, gutkha pouches, chicken feathers—even dead animals—are being carelessly thrown along the roadside. Drivers say the smell is so intense in some places that they are forced to cover their noses or stop their vehicles.

Locals allege that the forest department and other concerned authorities are turning a blind eye to the growing menace. No action has been taken against those dumping the waste, and the central government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan seems to have been completely ignored in this region.

The situation has worsened due to a rapid increase in settlements—bungalows, hotels, roadside eateries, shops, and residential colonies—along the highway. With no proper garbage collection mechanism in place, many hotel and shop owners are dumping both wet and dry waste directly on the road and nearby forest land.

As a result, lush green areas that once added to the beauty of this highway are now covered in filth. While people speak of environmental conservation and cleanliness, the reality here paints a starkly different picture.

Residents say they have complained multiple times, but no serious steps have been taken. When this reporter attempted to contact Daund Range Forest Officer Rahul Kale, he did not respond to calls.

People in the area have one clear demand:
“Take strict action against those dumping garbage and clear the waste immediately!”
