Pune | 01 August, 2025: Pune’s beloved Ganeshotsav is set for a meaningful change in 2025, as two prominent mandals, Akhil Mandai Mandal and Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Trust, announce a heartfelt decision to adjust their immersion procession timing. Known for drawing thousands of devotees to Laxmi Road during the festival’s grand finale, these mandals will now join the procession right after the revered Five Manache Ganpati, ensuring a smoother and spiritually respectful celebration.

The decision comes in response to a total lunar eclipse on September 7, the day after Anant Chaturdashi, the traditional immersion day on September 6. During the eclipse, Hindu customs call for covering deity idols, making it essential to complete the immersion and return idols to temples before noon on September 7. By moving their procession earlier, the mandals aim to honor this tradition while easing the strain on devotees, police, and civic authorities.

In previous years, these mandals faced challenges joining the evening procession due to delays, despite their readiness. This year, their choice to follow the Five Manache Ganpati from Tilak Putala Chowk reflects a commitment to both faith and community well-being. The earlier timing will allow devotees to participate in the vibrant procession—filled with music, dance, and devotion—while ensuring the rituals are completed in time for the eclipse.

For Pune’s residents and visitors, Ganeshotsav is more than a festival; it’s a time of unity and joy. The mandals’ decision ensures that this spirit remains intact, with the procession retaining its grandeur while respecting religious customs. Families lining Laxmi Road will still witness the stunning Ganpati idols and elaborate displays, but with a schedule that prioritizes safety and tradition.

The mandals have also called on other Ganesh mandals across Pune to cooperate by completing their immersions early. This collective effort could lighten the load on the city’s administration, making the festival safer and more organized for everyone. It’s a gesture of solidarity, inviting all to come together for a harmonious celebration.

As Pune prepares for Ganeshotsav 2025, the decision by Akhil Mandai Mandal and Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari Ganpati Trust sets a thoughtful tone. By balancing devotion with practicality, they’re ensuring that the festival remains a cherished experience, uniting communities in faith and festivity.
