Pune’s Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum Set for Grand Expansion

The Maharashtra government greenlights a new world-class complex for the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, unlocking space for its vast artefact collection. The project aims to preserve Pune’s rich heritage while boosting its global cultural appeal.

Pune’s cherished Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, home to over 20,000 artefacts from the 14th century, is poised for a transformative upgrade. Limited by space, the museum currently showcases only a fraction of its treasures, but a new six-acre site in Bavdhan Budruk will soon house a state-of-the-art facility, ensuring more of its collection can be displayed. This ambitious project, approved by the Maharashtra government, promises to honor the museum’s legacy while elevating it to international standards.

A high-level meeting in Mumbai, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, finalized plans to form an administrative committee to appoint a renowned architectural firm. The vision is to create a modern complex that retains the museum’s iconic name and celebrates Pune’s cultural heritage, from the era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to the Peshwas. Key officials, including ministers and local leaders, are collaborating to ensure the project’s success.

This expansion is a beacon of hope for preserving Pune’s historical legacy, offering residents and visitors a chance to connect with centuries-old artefacts. The new museum complex aims to position Pune as a global cultural hub, inviting the world to explore its rich history.
