Purandar, April 8:
Farmers protesting against the proposed Purandar International Airport have ended their hunger strike following productive discussions with government officials. The breakthrough came after a key meeting between officer Varsha Landage and representatives of the protesting farmers, who had been on a prolonged fast opposing land acquisition for the project.
During the discussions, officials assured the farmers that their concerns would be taken seriously. As part of the resolution, the administration has agreed to conduct fresh surveys of the affected land and maintain open channels of communication with the farming community throughout the process.
Farmer leaders have committed to submitting a formal list of demands to the district administration, which includes calls for fair compensation, transparent procedures, and comprehensive rehabilitation measures for those impacted by the project.
While both sides have expressed optimism about reaching a mutually acceptable resolution, farmer representatives emphasized that they remain prepared to resume protests if their demands are not properly addressed.
The Purandar Airport Project, envisioned as a major infrastructure boost for the Pune region, has faced ongoing opposition due to land acquisition concerns. With the suspension of the hunger strike, the path toward development appears smoother, but will require continued dialogue and trust-building with local stakeholders.
